MG HS transmission failure after extended city driving — what’s the cause?
My MG HS transmission started showing failure symptoms like jerky shifts and slipping after driving extensively in heavy city traffic in Lahore. Eventually, the transmission stopped responding properly. Are overheating and poor cooling the main reasons for transmission failure in Pakistani traffic conditions? What maintenance o r fixes are recommended to prevent this?

Gari Master - on 26 Jul 2025 14:07:57 pmExtended city driving in congested traffic is very hard on the MG HS’s DCT transmission, leading to overheating and premature wear. Factors include:
Heat buildup: DCTs generate more heat than traditional automatics in stop-and-go traffic. Without adequate cooling, this leads to clutch overheating.
Traffic conditions: Frequent clutch engagements wear components faster.
Possible cooling system inefficiency: MG HS cooling systems are sometimes inadequate for Pakistani climate and driving style.
Owners are advised to avoid prolonged idling in gear, use neutral during long stops, and regularly check for software updates and fluid condition at MG service centers to prevent failures.
