Prius Hybrid Battery Cells Refurbishing

I bought Toyota Prius and I started the very next day the engine check lights were shown. When I checked I found that the car lost its connection to the hybrid and the average of the car ped from 18 to 15 km per liter. When I contacted the mechanic for the checking, there were 6 cells of the battery, which need to be replaced. I shared this issue with some people and they suggested I replace the cell otherwise they got damaged.
