Problem in vitz..helo needed urgently..

hello guys...
i have 00 vitz....it drives perfectly fine and giving me prety good average...
but the problem is that its Malfuntion Indicator Lamp (check enging/engine light) turns on after driving about 3 minutes and remains On most of the time..whenever the car is stoped for some time and started again the light again goes Off and turns On after few minutes...
what can be the possible problem...from where can it be resolved..moreover can i still drive the car...or is it dangerous..
