Problem with my new xli

I have just bought a new corolla xli. Though i have not drived it alot yet i have noticed a problem in the car. The milage meter which tells how many kilometers per liter the car is doing gives absurd readinds. At one moment it is giving 6 km/l the other second it gives 99.9km/l then 12km/l and so on. It does not remain steady. I have also not accelarated the car much and have driven it very slowly. Can anyone using the new corolla xli or gli please comment on it. Thnax in advance.
