Problem with subwoofer

Problem with subwoofer

i finally changed my kenwood subwoofer with infinity perfect 12vq . and i am facing a problem . first i will like to clear that my system is tuned for sq not spl so naturaly i used one cubic feet sealed enclosure. now the sound is really impressive and it feels like i have upgraded every thing. the new woofer is rated 400 rms but iam running it on 300rms amp. now what hapens is when i open the volume to 40 and above on the scale of 1 to 60 the base distorts specially the base gitar type base. Now is this clipping. upto 40 volume every thing is fine but over 40 the base distorts.
i normally do not go above 40 volume but need to know what is the prolem.

what yr saying is 80% volume opens distorts sound?

ifyou have subwoofer amp and sub frequencies controller, reduce that to lower so it starts cutting off midbass more effciently.

you can hook up a network controller in between to adjust how much lows-cutoff yr system can handle.

Installing a bigger amp will also help reduce distortion.
