Quality of locally available alloy rims
Quality of locally available alloy rims
Hi,
I was thinking of changing the tires & rims of my new car (Honda City i-DSI). Going for alloy rims was also an option. I've seen the ones available in the local market and they cost around Rs. 11 - 14 K (13" or 14"). I've been told that they are made in China, Taiwan and even in Karachi!
What I want to know is howz the quality of these rims? Some people have told me that they get de-shaped pretty quickly, specially, if the car is driven on a bumpy road or even if the car encounters a pot-hole of a reasonable size on the road accidentally! And then one has to change the whole set (... another 12-14 K expenditure). So, should one go for these rims?
I've been also told that one can find imported rims in the market but they are quite expensive, around Rs. 25 - 30 K. What about their quality? Do they get de-shaped easily as well?
And apart from the looks, do "alloy" rims have any other benefit as compared to the regular ones? Should one go for a change?
Any comments, suggestions, opinions would be appreciated in this regard.

I shoudl point out that th eword "imported" mean to be brought into the country from somewhere else,... so technically taiwanese and chinese rims are alos imported.
99.999999% of the rims available in PK are dangerous and should NOT be used, however since most people only go for looks here it seems that they will keep demand up for sub-standard rims.
If you Must have rims, i'd suggest you get a set from the OEM (try getting original civic, city or accord rims to fit your car etc.)
