Rockers and valves?

Somebody please explain how rockers' sizes, valve sizes and valve lift ratios are related to performance.

valve lift is related to how long a valve stays open during the intake stroke. valve size does not matter much as long as it is adequate enough to cover the opening through the intake manifold..so the longer it stays open, the more air and petrol is pumped into the cylinder and hence more combustion and power.
