RPM or GEAR

AsalamuAlaikum

Yesterday while driving a question ticked in my mind about fuel consumption of a car. Keeping away the driving attitude, condition of engine automatic or manual, two things I think are governing in fuel consumption

1) RPM

2) GEAR in which you are driving

The question is two same cars at same rpm but at diffrent gear, say one in 1st & the other in 4th, would consume the same amount of fuel????

mmmmm....on the 4th gear, wind resistance would be a major factor n mite not give the same results

i think at same rpm the car would consume same amount of fuel, i think!!
