RPM Rev Limiter

RPM Rev Limiter

On Honda City idsi. the rev limiter allows the engine to rev upto 7000 rpm whereas the redline starts at only 6000 and the maximum engine power is made at 5800 rpm. In this regards I have follwing on which u may want to comment:

1. Why the rev limiter kicks in at 7000 when the redline starts at 6000

2. Would revving the emgine to the rev limiter occasionally while the car is in neutral, cause any damage.

Revving the engine in neutral or in gear, doesn't really make a difference, i mean, it does when in gear, it has to provide power to the transmission and hence the wheels.. but.. given that you take care of the engine like oil change within time and etc.. doesn't do any harm. Occasionally wouldn't do any harm at all.

About the rev limiter, maybe that engine can handle 7000 RPMs for a few seconds without any problems? don't know abt that thing though.
