When I engage 4X4 of my 1986 BJ60, it produces a loud echoing sound...should I be worried!
Also please suggest some good mechanic in Lahore from whom I may get it checked.
Thanks.

Do you have manual hub locks or power hub locks on your 4x4? If manual, here is the process you should follow, unless you are already following it.
1- Make sure steering is totally straight
2- Stop car, leave speed gear in neutral, lock hubs.
3- Whilst in neutral or the clutch depressed, try to move the 4x4 gear into 4 high. If facing too much resistance, put speed gear in 1st and while carrying a speed of not more than 3-4 kms shift into 4 high, remember to press clutch before shifting into 4 high.
4- Check for the same noise. There should be no echo, as a matter of fact you should not hear more than a slight sound.
5- Check in 4 low also. Stop vehicle, put 4x4 gear into neutral, shift hard into 4 low. Now you should hear a loud sound, axles engaging or something like that.
6- After disengaging 4x4, make sure you free your hubs again.
Try this procedure a couple of times, if you are still hearing a problem, read below. If not, if could be that if you have not used your 4x4 in a long time, your differential and axles are facing resistance, which will be ok after a couple of tries.
If this does not get better, go to model town A block market, ask around for Aman-ullah's workshop, tell him i sent you and he is good with such things. Do not get electrical work done by him.
