Suggestions of Engine Experts required

my cousins charade 84 started missing today.when we took the car to mechanic one of the plugs was found oil fouled the mechanic installed an adapter and the car was well again.i want to know what basically is an adapter?and what are the reasons for oil fouling of plug.because no one can say on the sound of engine that it is weak(even the mechanic said that the only problem is oil fouling otherwise the engine is good)

Firstly, you should take out that adapter, put it in a slingshot and aim for your mechanics head.
The plugs being fouled because either of a blown oil scrapper ring or it needs a head job (no pun intended). Putting an adapter just moves the plug backwards and prevents fouling while your engine happily ghuggs oil. Its like Pakistani policticians more or less, taking a back seat while things go to ****.
