Sump packing replacement on 1980 Corolla

Sump packing replacement on 1980 Corolla

I have a KE70 (Corolla 1980) which is leaking oil from sump. As per my mechanic the engine needs to be unmounted to replace the seal/packing as there is very low clearance b/w the crossmember and the sump. Is this correct?

I have had packings replaced and applied RTV silicone on newer model cars just by taking the sump off from below.

The packing costs harldy 100-150 rupees but it will be major work since engine needs to be taken off.

Experts are requested to please comment/advise.

thanks,

Ur mechanic is saying right,u will have to remove engine from the bay to replace the oil sump packing. In some front wheel drive car there is no need to remove the engine for this purpose.
