regarding peugeot 205 GLD 1769cc Diesel
i was reviewing a technical info with was lying with me for years...that had the gear ratio of the gearbox that the gti version and this GLD version share... its the BE/3 gearbox that was introduced which had the reverse gear below the 5th gear...earlier gearbox had different ratios..and had he reverse in the vw style...next to 1st gear...
the thing which surprised me that the top speed i have achieved is 170kmph... where as the 5th gear gives around 96mph at 5000 rpm.. whichis like 150kmph...
and the respective top speed of each gear is quite above what the gearbox would do at 5000rpm...
is this possible that the engine revs quite easily till 5700 or 5800 rpm
the 5th gear gives around 30 kmph per 1000 rpm..
so many times i have done 140 kmph in 4th gear.... most recent was 2 days back...
regarding the chances of speedometer error... a few days back i was overtaking a new civic.. which was showing 92 kmph ... my speedo was tellign me i m at around 100 kmph on kashmir highway... so there does not seems to be a major speedometer error involved...

i'd suggest you start at the bottom and check to see if the theorhetical speeds were achived with the same sized tyres as yours or wth a larger tyre (overall diameter).
smaller tyres lead to faster speeds being shown on the speedo.
