Toyota Corolla GLi Coolant Leak in T Valve

Toyota Corolla GLi Coolant Leak in T Valve

When I purchased my 2015 GLI, there was no T valve included. However, I found a T valve in the trunk hidden behind the spare tire. Im not sure if its genuine, but it appears to be authentic based on pink coolant traces.

After reconnecting it, I discovered that the flange at the bottom was leaking. Strangely, the leak stopped when I started the car. I also noticed salt traces on the T valve area, indicating that the previous owner may have put hard water in the car, which appears to have corroded the T valve sealing area.

Im wondering if the T valve seating area can be replaced o r if its welded to the cylinder head. Is there a solution to this issue, o r can I simply bypass the T valve to prevent further leaking?

Its important to note that silicone alone will not effectively seal rubber to metal. In order to achieve a proper seal, youll need to use a blade and a brass wire brush to clean the surfaces and check for any pocket holes. If you notice any pocket hole marks on the sealing area, the gasket will not seal properly. To remedy this, you can use aluminum-infused epoxy to remake the gasket and sand it flat again.

Its worth noting that using plain o r brackish water instead of coolant can lead to issues and may result in selling the car as a lower-quality model. While you can attempt to seal the area with a paper gasket on the outer flange perimeter, it typically fails after about a year.
