Toyota Vitz CVT Transmission Valve Body Servicing
Toyota Vitz CVT Transmission Valve Body Servicing
I have been very busy for the last few days so I was unable to interact on the forum.
As I promised some fellow members, we will start a new thread on automatic transmission valve body assi services. So here we are
Today I am going to discuss and share the problem in common Toyota CVT transmissions and related repair procedures. This can sometimes be fatal to the transmission itself and can lead to severe drive capacity problems and can result in complete transmission failure.
Mostly people do routine maintenance and change the basic lobe of their car ie engine oil, transmission oil, CVT transmission oil.
And think theyve done everything and there is no damage that can be caused by an overcrowded mileage interval oil change and they think that there is no caution for any damage
In daily routin, it is practical and everyone does so.
But the vehicles those are installed with CVT transmission need more in depth research and diagnosis and needed to be testes comprehensively. In this way we can come to know the exact health of the CVY transmissions before doing any kind of maintenance like any kind of calibration pressure calibration o r changing the fluid. The on board CVT Fluid Pressure Monitoring and Fluid Temperature Monitoring is tested that indicates the exact health and the values of transmission performance.
A common man can wonder. how can we test them?
a:
To monitor the Oil Pressure like the old conventional Toyota / Lexus Transmissions, should we install a pressure gauge o r some thing like that?
b:
Or to monitor the Temperature Values like the old Toyota/ Lexus Transmissions which dont had these sensors aboard on them we install a temperature Gauge in between the Oil Pressure line?
Simply No. Because these New Gen Vehicles installed on board Oil Pressure Sensors, and fluid Temperature Sensors. Whom Values can Easily be monitored through Compatible Scan Equipments and Also the Testings can be done to evaluate the transmission health and performance checks.
Now move to topic again
These 2 readings are mandatory to observe before any of the maintenance like Transmission Fluid Replacement is carried out.
The first one is the Oil Temperature.
Normally, while drive a car, the oil temperature raises according to the driving conditions. If there is a heavy load on the vehicle if the vehicle is driven WOT o r aggressively then the temperature of trans fluids rises and at the same end it cools with the help of ATF cooler which is of 2 types. 1: Oil with water. o r 2nd: Both methods are used to minimize the temperature of the oil from the air o r in some cases the liquid because when the temperature of the liquid rises above 100 C it loses its strength and lubricating power. It starts to lose Damage to the transmission due to overheating and non-lubrication. Depending on the type of flood
Hence, when same car is driven with normal partial load driving, the range of fluid temperature remains normal varying to vehicles make and weather conditions. We can assume the actual condition and accuracy of the transmission by checking the temperature of the fluid at idle.
There must be something wrong that causes the temperature to remain too high, if the temperature is as abnormal as the high side, then. So we must know and find out the reason that why is temperature so high. The temperature may be raised sometimes due to a fault in the oil cooler o r oil cooler tube o r circuit.
And Low Oil Pressure is also another reason for the increase in the temperature.
The reason is that there is an Oil to Cooler By pass valve in the Transmission Valve Body assy that opens at the different oil pressure configuration and keep the oil passing to cool so it can be used further.
We will now discuss the the basic Oil Pressure system and its Major key role in ATM and CVT Transmissions.
The Cvt and every ATM Transmissions goes on Fluid pressure. The transmission can change the Gear Ratios and the vehicle is moved in forward o r reverse direction when pressure is variation.
The vehicle had very huge lags and can’t move easily in any direction when the Fluid pressure s below the certain normal point which is mentioned by the manufacturer then the. Resultantly, the transmission fails completely.
The Toyota CVT equipped vehicles in Toyota Vitz, Axio , Fielder and other Toyota CVT Equipped vehicles face such kind of issues now a days.
The minor drive ability problem which starts from Minor Engine Braking effect when driving below 40 KM/H if the Throttle pedal is released the transmission starts to brake immediately and lower down the speed, which is alarming for these cvts. This problem starts when the CVT Fluid starts to deteriorate and become unusable.
The driver is cannot determine the signs And keep on driving unfortunately and follows the strict oil change interval ranging from 30K to 40K.
Finally, the CVT Fluid is unable to maintain the Pressure and the Start clutch & Braking Clutchs Packs and CVT Drive Belts starts to wear out.
Debris from these is usually deposited on oil pan catch magnets which catch small microscopic and large metallic particles with small particles of clutch pack which are not metals in nature.
Then there comes a time when pan magnets cant hold the particles in these tiny clutch packs and the particles pass through the main strainer transmission filter so the valve body shuts down the state-of-the-art internal mechanism. Are the brains of the transmission. And responsible for large gear shifting, pressure change, and costing and torque converter lockup operation and much more.
Therefore, those residues block the movement of valves that had very little clearance between them and the valve body valves.
Blocking the movement and the end result begins with a decrease in A / T oil pressure which is further reduced due to time and quantity within which the blocks become more and more dense. As we know A / T and CVT transmissions depend on hydraulic oil pressure. When the oil pressure s, the internal parts of the transmission begin to degrade faster than normal, resulting in poor performance and fatal transmission failure for sometimes..
If we change the oil until the transmission valve body becomes residual then CVT o r A / T transmission fluid does not help to improve the situation and does not increase the oil pressure significantly. The mechanism with the remains in the valve body is blocked.
So a few hundred kilometers after the oil change, we will see wear particles in the oil pan catch magnets which indicate to us that the wear problem still exists and is not solved and the transmission is still suffering from excessive wear.
So before doing any maintenance work on these vehicles, always inspect these pan catch magnets. First, hook up the scan equipment and check the oil pressure and oil temperature readings and check the health of your vehicles transmission. Observe them to find out.
Scan instruments have some active testing features that can check oil pressure at high and low speeds at low speed to determine if oil pressure is in normal range.
While Ive been working on Toyota cars for so many years, these are my discoveries that I will mention below: How do I deal with these problems when I encounter them and how do I perform repair services.
NOTE:
It is worthy to mention here that these sophisticated Transmission services cannot by done by self, you should not ever try to do by your own otherwise an incomplete transmission failure will appear. Mostly, the transmissions of vehicles fail due to unprofessional and untrained persons as we can observe in the local market.
The Toyota Dealerships do not provide these repair services and avoiding these CVT general Maintenance Jobs. So be careful in this regard and don’t to go untrained persons and mechanics to destroy your vehicle.
Here we are with the vehicle it is Toyota Vitz 2012 KSP130 series equipped with 1KR-FE along with K410 CVT Transmission.
We find that the A/T Oil Pressure was not in the normal range and was a bit low. see the highlighted text in the picture after diagnostic and daily Scan job.
The High Pressure was on 2.095 MPa which is equal ant to 303 Psi and on lower test it was in range
as shown in HIGH Active Test Shown in 2nd picture.
So We decided to rectify this low pressure problem present in the CVT Transmission and Drained the CVTF Fluid from the oil Pan and Opened the oil pan for inspection.
High pres
OIL PRESSURE BEFORE SERVICING WAS 2.095 MPa 303psi
OIL PRESSURE AFTER SERVICING WAS 3.415 MPa 495psi
Total Difference was of 192 PSI which is a quite huge improvement.
Before servicing pictures are on page one and
After servicing and reassembling pictures are on page 2

Sumaiya Akbar - on 16 Dec 2022 17:25:37 pmGreat article ...with the exceptions of few things...
Engine breaking at 30 and 40 km/h is actually a key feature in these transmission. ...if someone doesnt like it say in a traffic jam simply switch to S mode...then you wont get any engine breaking.
Secondly. ..its really annoying how the information on these transmission are not readily available.
Thirdly....the transmission you showed was using a toyota tc genuine oil..
Red wala......which is a crap oil I must say..
Issue is this oil creates froth jhaag as the transmission moves...which reduces oil supply to various components. And it doesnt providing much cooling either...cause if you drive your car hard the transmission will give this winning noise.... aeeeeennnnn. This only happens when trans overheats...which means there is Bad wear protection too ..cause of genuine Toyota oil...
Also bad oil o r this toyota oil in hand will reduce your acceleration ...cause transmission power losses...your car puts less hp than written on your user manual.
Use liqui moly atf 1400 ....and you want have to do all this crap ...and you wont have dirty finger from the magnet....cause it has a better wear protection..
