Using spacers

I have a Corolla xli, and I want to use spacers to the rear height of my car to increase, it is harmful in any way?
Pliz call & also the advantages / disadvantages?

Advantage: a higher altitude, OEM installation

Disadvantages: poor handling, poor brakes, etc. .. 4x4 apearanc
