What are the risks of ignoring a minor transmission fluid leak in MG HS?

I’ve been noticing a small leak of reddish fluid under my MG HS, but the car still drives smoothly without any transmission error warnings. Can I delay repairs, o r could this lead to major transmission damage? How fast does a minor transmission fluid leak escalate into a bigger problem?
