What causes a burning smell from the brakes of my Changan Oshan X7 after highway driving?

After driving on the motorway at high speed and braking a few times, I get a strong burning smell from the wheels. Are the brake pads overheating, and could this lead to brake fade o r damage to the rotors?

A burning smell after motorway o r highway driving often means your brake pads are overheating. Common causes include:

Aggressive o r sudden braking at high speeds

Dragging brake caliper where the brake pad doesn’t fully release

Low-quality brake pads that aren’t heat-resistant

When brake pads get too hot, they start to lose their friction ability — a condition known as brake fade. This can be dangerous. To prevent this:

Avoid braking too hard at high speeds

Use engine braking when possible

Have your calipers and pads inspected if the problem persists
