What Causes MG HS Engine Oil Consumption Between Services?

I’ve had to top up the engine oil in my MG HS between routine services. Is it normal for the MG HS 1.5T engine to consume oil, o r could there be a leak o r internal engine problem? Any advice on checking for early signs?

The check engine light CEL is a general indicator that something is wrong with the engine o r emission system. In the MG HS, especially in Pakistani conditions, common reasons include:

Oxygen sensor malfunction – can affect fuel-air mixture and mileage.

Loose o r faulty fuel cap – surprisingly common, can trigger CEL.

Bad spark plugs o r ignition coils – can cause misfires.

Faulty mass airflow MAF sensor – affects performance and fuel economy.

Fuel quality issues – lower-octane o r impure fuel can trigger CEL in turbo engines.

Action: Get an OBD-II scan done at a reliable workshop to pinpoint the exact error code. Avoid ignoring the light if it flashes o r stays on for long periods.
