What Causes the Fuel Cap on My Suzuki Cultus to Crack?

The fuel cap on my Suzuki Cultus has cracked, and I’m not sure what caused it. Is it the result of exposure to extreme temperatures, frequent use, o r poor-quality materials? How can I prevent the fuel cap from cracking again in the future, and should I be concerned about the crack causing fuel leakage o r affecting the car’s performance?

Fuel caps on vehicles, including the Suzuki Cultus, can crack due to several reasons:

Exposure to Extreme Temperatures: In Pakistan, where temperatures can be very high, the rubber and plastic components of the fuel cap can become brittle over time. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight o r cold temperatures can cause the material to crack.
Frequent Use: Constantly opening and closing the fuel cap may cause it to wear down. Over time, the repetitive action of twisting and turning the cap can stress the material, leading to cracks.
Low-Quality Materials: If the fuel cap is made from low-quality plastic o r rubber, it may be more prone to cracking. Some Suzuki Cultus models may have fuel caps that are more susceptible to wear and tear.
Improper Handling: ping the fuel cap o r using excessive force when closing it can cause damage.
Solution:

Avoid Extreme Conditions: Try to park your car in shaded o r covered areas to protect the fuel cap from excessive heat o r cold.
Replace with a High-Quality Cap: When replacing the fuel cap, choose a high-quality replacement part that is designed to withstand temperature fluctuations and frequent use.
Handle with Care: Be gentle when removing and replacing the cap to avoid putting stress on the material.
