What does tuning means

hey guys i may sound stupid but sitting idle this came to my mind so i thought to refer xperts........
in a laymans language it means to tune it up..........rite but y does a car needs it wat r the benefits ..........and what are the indications that a car needs tuning..........what are proper tuning intervals........

Every Few Thousand kms / Hundreds of Hours , every motor needs tuning.
Some Mechanical / Electrical parts need Changing.
Some Mechanical / Electrical parts need Cleaning.
Some Mechanical parts need adjustment.

All this adjustment, Cleaning, replacing parts is called Tuning.

For EFI cars tuning interval is 10,000 kms or when you feel something abnormal.
For Carburator cars, it can be 3,000 kms or it may go as long as 10,000 kms.

Remember : you can forget everything but you cannot forget to change Oil and Oil Filter every 3,000 kms +/-
