What is a Manifold?

What is a Manifold?

Salaam everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great ride here at pakwheels. I have the following query which I want to address.

I may sound dumb but WHAT IS A MANIFOLD?

Your responses will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.

think of manifold as a chamer or a router

intake - the chamber which facilitates the input of air (coming in through the air intake assembly) and fuel (coming through through fuel injectors or carb) into the cylinders of the engine for combustion.

the fuel is fed to the injectors through a fuel rail while air goes through its assembly, then through the filter. how much a/f is matter of throttle...so the throttle body is usually attached to the intake manifold as well.

exhaust - this manifold facilitates the outlet of spent gases through each cylinder right after the power stroke of the combustion cycle. if given, the catalytic converter is also built in to the body of the exhaust manifold.

further to what sameer said...

turbos usually run on exhaust gases so they are mounted on the exhaust side while a supercharger works off the crank...so when installed, it fully replaces the stock intake manifold and works off the belt circled through the crankshaft.
