When i switch on AC

Dear members i hav vitz 2000, when i switch on the AC a sound comes ghoon ghhoooon ghoooon from compressor and it goes on and on. while AC is working fine. i consulted with an AC mechanic he said to replace the compressor. Can any body hav the same experience or what to advice. Somebody else told me that it bearing sound of compressor.
