Why did my Hyundai Oshan X7 fail the vehicle emission test in Punjab despite being a new car?

My Oshan X7 is less than two years old and well maintained, but it recently failed the VICS emission test in Lahore. The staff mentioned high CO and HC levels. What could be causing this? I don’t see any warning lights on the dashboard. Could it be due to a faulty oxygen sensor, bad fuel, o r delayed servicing?

Possible causes:

High CO/HC readings could point to a malfunctioning oxygen sensor, dirty air filter, poor fuel, o r irregular maintenance.

Bank on simple causes first: use good petrol and a fresh air filter.

If no improvement, have the O₂ sensors, ECU diagnostics, and catalytic converter checked at a service centre.
