Why does the car Jerk?

Hey,Guys,
I was wondering that why does a car jerk when it is started and it is Gear?i mean how does it jerk?The engine is off n there is no other power supply to move the car so much?

It is the engine that causes the car to jerk. When you are attempting to start the engine and the car is in gear, the engine while spinning and attempting to start is jerking the car forward.
