Why does the “Check Engine / Emission System” light appear on my Tiggo 4?

Why does the “Check Engine / Emission System” light appear on my Tiggo 4?

Many emission‑system problems start with sensor faults like a bad oxygen sensor o r exhaust/converter issues that don’t immediately affect drivability.

If you get such a warning light, you should ask: what exactly triggered it — is it a sensor error, catalytic converter inefficiency e.g. code like P0420, o r something else? Also, how often does the warning come on once, intermittently, o r constantly?
Assessing this helps to confirm whether the problem is superficial o r a deeper emissions‑system fault which can get worse over time.

The light can come on due to a variety of reasons:

Faulty oxygen sensors – they measure exhaust gases and help the engine maintain the correct air-fuel mixture. A faulty sensor can trigger the warning even if the car seems fine.

Catalytic converter issues – if it’s not functioning properly, it can’t clean exhaust gases effectively.

Loose fuel cap o r wiring/sensor problems – minor issues in the emission system can also trigger the light.
