Why is my Kia Sorento losing coolant frequently? Could it be a radiator leak?
I drive a 2017 Kia Sorento in Karachi, and recently I’ve noticed the coolant level keeps ping every few days, even though there are no major visible puddles under the car. The engine temperature also rises slightly in traffic. A local mechanic said it might be a radiator leak, which he says is common in this model due to heat and traffic conditions in Pakistan. Has anyone else experienced this? What’s the best way to identify and fix such a leak?

Yes, if your coolant level is ping regularly without visible large leaks, a small radiator leak is a strong possibility. This issue is quite common in Kia Sorento models in Pakistan, especially the 2014–2018 variants.
Here’s why:
High ambient temperatures in cities like Karachi put extra stress on the radiator.
The radiator in many Sorento models comes with plastic end tanks, which can develop hairline cracks over time.
Tap water often used instead of proper coolant can cause corrosion, weakening the radiator walls and seals.
To confirm a radiator leak:
Check for white o r pinkish residue around the radiator edges o r under the car.
Pressure test the cooling system most radiator shops in Pakistan offer this.
Check under the radiator cap for bubbling o r rust, which may indicate internal leakage.
Recommendation:
If the radiator is cracked o r leaking, temporary sealants are not a reliable solution. Its better to replace the radiator, and in Pakistan, you can find aftermarket radiators Chinese o r Korean that cost significantly less than OEM but still perform well. Just make sure the replacement includes proper metal fittings and durable plastic tanks.
