Why is my Suzuki Alto’s steering wheel hard to turn?
A steering wheel that is difficult to turn can make driving uncomfortable and stressful, especially in tight spaces o r parking situations. What could be causing the steering to feel heavy, and how can it be addressed to restore comfort and ease of driving?

If your steering wheel feels heavy o r difficult to turn, several factors could be contributing to the problem:
Low Power Steering Fluid: The most common reason for heavy steering is low power steering fluid. If the fluid level is low o r the fluid is dirty, it can cause the power steering pump to work inefficiently, making the steering wheel harder to turn.
Faulty Power Steering Pump: If the power steering pump is damaged o r worn out, it may not be able to supply enough hydraulic pressure, making the steering feel heavy.
Damaged Steering Rack: The steering rack is responsible for converting the rotational movement of the steering wheel into lateral movement of the wheels. If the rack is damaged o r has a leak, it can cause the steering to feel stiff.
Worn Steering Belt: A worn o r loose steering belt can reduce the efficiency of the power steering pump, making the steering wheel harder to turn.
Tire Pressure Issues: Incorrect tire pressure, especially if the tires are under-inflated, can make the steering feel heavier because the tires are harder to turn.
Solution: Check and top up the power steering fluid if it’s low. If the fluid level is normal, have the power steering pump, steering rack, and belt inspected by a mechanic. Ensure the tires are properly inflated to the recommended pressure to avoid additional strain on the steering system.
