Why is there a loss of power when I press the accelerator in my MG HS?
Why is there a loss of power when I press the accelerator in my MG HS?
This issue is frequently caused by delayed spark o r weak ignition due to degraded spark plugs. As plugs wear out o r become carbon-fouled, they cant produce a strong enough spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture effectively. This is common in turbocharged engines like the MG HS in hot climates like Pakistan, especially if driven at low RPMs often.

Power loss during acceleration is often caused by weak o r delayed ignition, which happens when spark plugs are either worn out, fouled, o r improperly gapped. In a turbocharged engine like the MG HSs 1.5L o r 2.0L, spark timing is critical for performance.
If the spark is weak o r mistimed, combustion is delayed, resulting in lower engine output. This issue is worsened in Pakistan due to high engine load in hilly regions, heat, and bad fuel. Additionally, MG HS models have been reported to have factory-installed plugs that don’t last long in local driving conditions.
Symptoms:
Sluggish acceleration
Engine knocking o r pinging
Lag in turbo response
Solution: Replace plugs with OEM-approved iridium plugs. Check for proper gapping and inspect the ignition coil o r leads as well.
