“Why would the Model 3’s gearbox fluid leak, and what are common causes?”

“Why would the Model 3’s gearbox fluid leak, and what are common causes?”

I have a used Tesla Model 3 imported and I’m concerned about possible gearbox fluid leaks. Given the rougher roads, potholes, and hot climate in Pakistan:
‑ What are the most common causes of gearbox‑fluid leaks in a Model 3 drive unit?
‑ Could road damage e.g., hitting a pothole o r under‑car rust from road salt make a leak more likely?
‑ Are there particular seals, connectors, o r parts motor‑to‑gearbox that tend to fail o r wear out more in challenging road conditions?
‑ Is there any preventive maintenance I can do locally in Pakistan to reduce the risk of a leak?

Common causes of drive unit gearbox fluid leaks:

Worn o r damaged seals in the drive unit, often due to age o r rough usage.

Impact from potholes o r road debris, which can crack the drive unit casing.

Thermal expansion in hot climates causing minor seepage.

Improper maintenance o r previous repairs.

In Pakistan, road conditions potholes, water logging and heat can increase stress on seals.

Preventive measures:

Inspect the undercarriage regularly for leaks.

Avoid driving through deep water o r over potholes at high speed.

Schedule routine Tesla drive unit inspections at authorized service centers.
