An a faulty ignition coil cause poor fuel average in a Mercedes C-Class?

My C-Class W204 fuel economy has ped noticeably. There’s also a slight hesitation when accelerating. A friend said it might be due to a bad ignition coil. Can a weak o r misfiring coil lead to poor mileage and performance in these cars?

Yes, a faulty o r misfiring ignition coil causes incomplete combustion in the affected cylinders, which leads to:

Lower fuel efficiency

Increased fuel consumption

Rough running engine and reduced power output

Because the engine compensates for misfires by injecting more fuel, the mileage s noticeably. Fixing faulty coils usually restores normal fuel economy and engine performance.
