Why does my Mercedes-Benz C180’s brake pedal feel soft o r spongy when the brake pads are worn out?

Lately, the brake pedal on my Mercedes C180 W203 feels softer and less responsive, especially when braking from higher speeds. Could worn brake pads cause this, o r might it be related to brake fluid o r other components? What are the common brake system problems in Pakistan that affect pedal feel?

A soft o r spongy brake pedal usually indicates issues beyond just worn brake pads, such as:

Air in the brake lines: Common if brake fluid hasn’t been changed o r system wasn’t bled properly.

Brake fluid leakage: Worn pads can expose rotors, increasing heat and possibly causing fluid leaks.

Worn o r leaking master cylinder o r brake lines: Affect pedal firmness.

Brake pad wear: While worn pads reduce braking efficiency, they usually don’t cause spongy pedals alone.

What to do:

Check brake fluid level and condition flush and bleed the system if needed.

Inspect for fluid leaks o r damaged brake lines.

Replace worn brake pads promptly.

Have the master cylinder and brake system inspected by a qualified mechanic.
