Can delayed ATF changes cause complete transmission failure in Mercedes C-Class? Detail:

I have a 2014 C-Class W204, and I never changed the transmission fluid since I bought it used 3 years ago. Now, the car hesitates to shift gears and jerks during acceleration. Some workshops in Karachi told me not changing the ATF on time can destroy the transmission. Is that true? Can late maintenance actually cause full gearbox failure?

Yes, delayed o r skipped ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid changes are one of the leading causes of transmission failure in the Mercedes C-Class in Pakistan.

Dirty o r degraded fluid:

Loses lubrication properties

Causes overheating

Leads to wear in the valve body, torque converter, and clutch packs

In Karachi and other high-temperature cities, skipping fluid changes accelerates wear. If you’re already seeing jerky shifting o r hesitation, that’s a sign the damage may have started. However, flushing old fluid suddenly can also cause issues. A controlled fluid change with filter replacement is recommended.
