Can I use locally available bulbs for my Mercedes-Benz, o r do I need to stick to original ones to avoid burnout?

The tail light bulb on my Mercedes C180 W203 burned out, and I’m wondering if it’s okay to replace it with a locally available bulb from the market. Mechanics in Rawalpindi said it’s fine, but I’m worried about long-term reliability and electrical compatibility. Do local bulbs cause faster burnout o r trigger errors in the car’s computer system? Whats the best solution for Mercedes lighting issues in Pakistan?

You can use locally available bulbs, but they must meet the correct specifications for voltage, wattage, and CAN-BUS compatibility. However, many low-cost bulbs in Pakistan don’t meet these standards, and can:

Burn out faster.

Trigger dashboard errors.

Overheat and damage the socket o r wiring.

Cause uneven lighting o r dim output.

Risks of local low-quality bulbs:

Error messages on dashboard.

Shortened bulb lifespan — especially with Chinese o r unbranded products.

Electrical damage in the worst cases melting sockets o r wiring.

Best solution:

Buy OEM Mercedes-Benz, Osram, o r Philips bulbs from trusted dealers even in Pakistan.

Make sure the bulbs are CAN-BUS compatible, especially for tail lights, number plate lights, and interior lights.

Avoid overpowered “extra bright” bulbs unless approved for your model — they generate more heat and burn out faster.
