Check Engine Light showing P0443 on my Mercedes — is this related to the purge valve?

My Mercedes E-Class W211 has triggered the check engine light, and the OBD scanner shows code P0443 EVAP purge valve circuit malfunction. This car is a used Japanese import and mostly driven in Lahore. Is this a known issue in Mercedes cars in Pakistan? Can dusty conditions o r local fuel quality damage the EVAP system o r wiring?

Yes, code P0443 refers to a malfunction in the EVAP purge control valve circuit, meaning the engine control unit ECU has detected an electrical o r mechanical fault in the purge valve system.

In Pakistan, this can happen due to:

Broken wiring o r connector issues – Dust, humidity, o r poor-quality repair work can damage the EVAP purge valve wiring.

Valve solenoid failure – Over time, especially in hot weather, the solenoid in the purge valve can fail electrically.

Water ingress o r corrosion – Due to monsoon rains o r poor sealing in imports, moisture can enter the electrical connectors.

What to do:

Check wiring harness and connectors to the purge valve for corrosion o r damage.

Use a multimeter o r scanner to test if the valve is receiving the correct signal and functioning.

If the solenoid is not clicking during testing, the valve likely needs replacement.

Tip: Avoid just resetting the code — the problem will return unless the underlying issue is fixed.
