Haval H6 showing overheating warning – could the water pump be the cause? Details:

My Haval H6 2.0T AWD 2021 model suddenly showed an overheating warning on the dashboard while driving on the motorway near Faisalabad. After stopping and letting it cool down, the warning disappeared, but it came back the next day. The coolant reservoir is full, and there’s no visible leak. A workshop suggested the water pump might be weak o r its impeller damaged, which they said is becoming a common issue in H6s due to dust and poor coolant circulation. Has anyone in Pakistan replaced their water pump yet? Should I go for a genuine GWM part o r a compatible aftermarket one?

Yes, the water pump is a likely culprit, especially if the overheating happens intermittently i.e., fine at times, but overheats under load o r on long drives. The electric water pump in Haval H6s both 1.5T and 2.0T engines is known to develop issues due to dust ingress, poor coolant circulation, o r electrical faults.

Here’s what you should do:

Inspect for Coolant Leaks: Check under the engine and around the water pump housing — sometimes small leaks cause air bubbles, reducing coolant flow.

Check Thermostat and Radiator Fan: A stuck thermostat o r weak fan can also mimic pump failure. However, if both are fine, then the pump is most likely the issue.

Replace with OEM Only: Go for a genuine GWM o r Haval water pump, even if it’s more expensive. Aftermarket Chinese o r locally sourced pumps often don’t last in Pakistani heat.

Flush the Cooling System: Before installing the new pump, get a complete coolant flush — old o r mixed coolant can damage the new pump quickly.

Several owners in Lahore and Islamabad reported the same overheating warning, and in most cases, a new OEM water pump resolved the issue permanently.
