Haval H6 steering making knocking sound while turning – what could be the cause?

My Haval H6 2.0T AWD 2021 model has started making a clicking o r knocking sound whenever I turn the steering, especially at slow speeds o r when driving over bumps. It sounds like something loose in the steering column o r suspension. A workshop in Karachi told me it could be due to loose steering rack joints o r worn steering column bushings, which they say is becoming common in locally used H6s due to rough roads and steering rack wear. Should I get the rack repaired o r replaced? And are these parts easily available in Pakistan?

The knocking o r clicking sound while turning is one of the most common steering complaints in Haval H6s used on Pakistani roads. Usually, it’s caused by worn steering rack joints o r loose lower column bushings, both of which can get damaged quickly due to uneven roads and potholes.

What you should do:

Inspect the Steering Rack Ends: These joints loosen up over time and can create a knocking sound on turns o r bumps.

Check the Steering Column Bush: A small rubber bushing under the steering column often wears out — replacing it usually fixes the sound.

Lubricate the Joints: Sometimes the noise is due to dry o r ungreased joints, which can be resolved with proper lubrication.

Avoid Delaying Repairs: If the knocking worsens, it can damage the rack assembly, which is expensive to replace around PKR 100,000+ if bought new.

Many H6 owners in Karachi and Faisalabad have had this issue fixed with a steering rack tightening o r bushing replacement, not a full rack change. Try a specialized SUV suspension workshop before replacing anything.
