How do maintenance issues like clogged air filters o r dirty spark plugs affect fuel economy in BMW 2 Series?

My BMW 220i’s mileage has ped suddenly. Could dirty air filters, old spark plugs, o r other simple maintenance issues common in Pakistan be the cause? What should I check regularly to maintain good fuel economy?

Clogged air filters reduce airflow, causing the engine to burn more fuel to compensate. Similarly, dirty o r worn spark plugs lead to incomplete combustion, lowering efficiency.

Replace air filters every 15,000 to 20,000 km o r sooner if driving in dusty conditions common in Pakistan.

Inspect and replace spark plugs according to BMW’s schedule, typically every 30,000 to 50,000 km.

Regular oil changes and tire maintenance also help improve mileage.
