How does low refrigerant affect the AC performance in Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and how can I check it?

My Mercedes-Benz E-Class air conditioner suddenly stopped cooling well. I’ve heard that low refrigerant levels can cause this problem. How can I check if the refrigerant is low, and what are the usual reasons for refrigerant leaks in these cars? Is it safe to refill the refrigerant myself o r should I take it to a professional?

Low refrigerant directly reduces cooling capacity:

Refrigerant absorbs heat from the cabin air. Without sufficient refrigerant, the AC cannot cool effectively.

Leaks in the system hoses, seals, o r condenser are the main cause of low refrigerant.

Symptoms include the AC blowing warm air, frost buildup on AC lines, o r the system cycling on and off frequently.

How to check:

Use a pressure gauge on the low-pressure service port to check refrigerant pressure.

Look for visible signs of leaks oil stains, wet spots around AC components.

A professional can perform a leak detection test using UV dye o r electronic leak detectors.

Safety note:

Refrigerant handling requires special equipment and knowledge.

It’s recommended to have a professional recharge and repair the system to avoid overcharging o r environmental harm.
