How much should I budget for fixing a check engine light issue in a Mercedes-Benz E-Class?

The check engine light on my Mercedes E-Class W213 came on, and the workshop says it could be an oxygen sensor o r another engine sensor. What’s the typical price range in Pakistan for diagnosing and repairing this kind of issue? Are sensor replacements costly, and how can I avoid getting overcharged?

The check engine light CEL can indicate many issues — sensor faults are among the most common. Here’s what to expect:

Diagnostic scan OBD-II o r STAR: ₨ 2,000 – ₨ 5,000

Oxygen O2 sensor replacement: ₨ 15,000 – ₨ 30,000

MAF sensor replacement: ₨ 25,000 – ₨ 50,000

Purge control valve o r minor vacuum issue fix: ₨ 5,000 – ₨ 12,000

Labour depending on the fault: ₨ 2,000 – ₨ 5,000

Tips:

Always insist on using a proper Mercedes-Benz diagnostic tool like STAR Diagnostic to avoid unnecessary parts replacement.

Avoid guesswork — some workshops may suggest replacing multiple parts without proper diagnosis.

Ask for old parts after replacement to ensure transparency.
