Is electronic power steering failure common in BMW 2 Series cars in Pakistan?

My mechanic told me that the electric power steering EPS unit in my BMW 220i might be failing. Is EPS failure a common issue here due to dust, power surges, o r poor road conditions?

Yes, EPS issues are increasingly reported in BMW 2 Series vehicles in Pakistan due to:

Heat and dust damaging electrical connections o r EPS sensors.

Low voltage from aging batteries, causing intermittent EPS operation.

Road shocks from speed bumps o r potholes affecting the EPS control unit.

Faulty steering torque sensors o r column motor failures.

Signs include intermittent heavy steering, EPS warning lights, o r complete loss of assist. A diagnostic scan will reveal stored EPS-related fault codes.
