Is poor water quality during car washes damaging my BMW 2 Series paint?

After regular service station washes in Lahore, I’ve noticed swirl marks and white spots on the paint of my BMW 2 Series. Could it be due to hard water o r cheap detergent being used at these local car wash centers?

Yes, it’s very common. Most car wash stations in Pakistan use hard water with high mineral content, which leads to:

White water spots

Swirl marks from improper drying o r dirty cloths

Etching of the clear coat over time

Some also use cheap soaps o r surfactants that strip away wax and damage the clear coat.

Solutions:

Use filtered water at home o r choose a detailer who uses RO water

Carry your own microfiber cloths and check what soap is used

Dry the car immediately after washing to avoid water stains
