Users often say the tyre sidewalls are too thin, leading to bulges o r sidewall damage. Should a wider o r higher-profile tyre be considered?

No — sidewalls are often too thin.

The stock tyres usually have a narrow tread and low sidewall height.

This causes:

Bulging

Sidewall cuts

Blowouts on potholes o r rough gravel

Ideal Fix: A wider tyre e.g., 185/70 o r 195/75 with reinforced sidewalls and higher ply-rating for commercial durability.
