KIA Stonic brakes making noise – are worn brake pads the issue?
Lately, my KIA Stonic 2021 model has started making a squeaking o r grinding noise when I brake, especially at low speeds. I’m based in Lahore and mostly drive in daily traffic. The car has done around 25,000 km. Could this be due to worn-out brake pads, o r is it a problem with the rotors too? Is early brake pad wear a known issue with the Stonic in Pakistan?

Yes, brake noise squeaking o r grinding is often the first sign that your brake pads are worn down o r reaching the end of their life. Since your Stonic has done 25,000 km and is mostly used in city traffic, it’s likely the pads are due for replacement.
🔍 Possible Reasons for the Noise:
Brake Pad Wear Indicators:
Most modern brake pads have a small metal clip that starts making a squealing noise when the pads are thin — this is intentional, to alert the driver.
Grinding Noise = Urgent:
If the noise is more of a grinding sound, it may mean the pad material is completely worn out and the metal backing is touching the rotor, which can damage it.
Brake Dust and Dirt:
In dusty environments like Lahore, brake dust can build up and cause minor squeaks — but consistent noise usually means worn pads.
Low-Quality Pads o r Improper Installation:
If aftermarket pads were previously installed and are of low quality, they might wear unevenly o r create noise earlier than expected.
✅ What You Should Do:
Visit a trusted workshop and get both brake pads and rotors inspected.
If pads are below 3mm thickness, replace them immediately.
If rotors are grooved o r warped, get them resurfaced o r replaced to avoid future issues.
Choose OEM-quality o r branded aftermarket pads to reduce noise and increase durability.
