Number plate and interior bulbs on my Haval H6 keep fusing – could it be a battery o r alternator issue?

I own a 2023 Haval H6 HEV, and I’ve noticed that small bulbs like number plate lights and interior dome lights burn out every few weeks. I replaced them with aftermarket LED ones, but they also failed after a short time. A friend said it might be overcharging from the alternator o r a bad voltage regulator. I’ve also noticed slight flickering in the dashboard lights when idling. Could a voltage surge be the reason, and how can I test the alternator output properly in Pakistan?

Yes, this could very well be linked to your alternator o r voltage regulator. The Haval H6 HEV’s hybrid system can cause minor voltage fluctuations, especially when switching between battery and engine power.

Here’s what to check:

Alternator Output:

Ask an electrician to measure charging voltage with the engine running. It should stay between 13.8V and 14.4V. Anything higher means your alternator is overcharging, which can burn small bulbs.

Grounding Points:

Weak o r rusty ground wires can cause current spikes that damage bulbs. Get the grounding points cleaned and tightened.

LED Quality:

Most aftermarket LEDs sold locally are non-CANBUS and low quality — they burn easily even at normal voltage. Use Osram, Philips, o r GTR LED bulbs for better durability.

Flickering Dashboard Lights:

If you notice flickering, it’s almost always an alternator o r grounding issue, not the bulbs themselves.

A few H6 hybrid owners in Islamabad and Faisalabad fixed this by replacing the voltage regulator and using better-quality LEDs with built-in resistors. After that, no more blown bulbs.
