Radiator leak after hitting a speed breaker – how to check if it’s repairable?

I own a 2023 Haval H6 HEV, and last week I hit a high speed breaker near Multan. A few days later, I noticed coolant leaking near the radiator area. The front bumper seems fine, but the leak starts after the engine runs for a few minutes. A local mechanic said the lower radiator portion might be cracked, while another suggested it could be a loose hose o r damaged radiator clamp. Since parts for hybrids aren’t easy to find in Pakistan, I’m not sure whether to get it repaired with epoxy/aluminum soldering o r replace the whole radiator. What’s the best option considering Pakistan’s hot weather and spare part availability?

This kind of leak is quite common after an undercarriage impact because the lower radiator support o r plastic base tank can crack. It’s good that your bumper looks fine — the damage is likely at the bottom radiator seam o r pipe connection.

Here’s how to proceed:

Visual Check: Use a flashlight under the car when the engine is warm — if you see coolant pooling around the radiator’s lower corner, that’s likely the crack area.

Pressure Test: Have a radiator shop test it under pressure they’ll immediately see if it’s leaking from a joint o r a puncture.

Repair Feasibility:

Small cracks on the plastic tank can be fixed with radiator epoxy o r plastic welding.

Metal core damage if fins o r tubes are crushed means you’ll need a new radiator.

For HEV Models: Since your car is a Haval H6 Hybrid, it’s better not to delay — overheating can affect the hybrid system. Order an OEM radiator from a GWM service center hybrid variants use slightly different cooling configurations.

For temporary relief, you can use distilled water + coolant mix to keep driving short distances, but don’t rely on it too long — a radiator replacement is the safer option in Pakistan’s heat.
