Steering Becomes Hard While Turning — Is There a Power Steering Problem in United Alpha?

My United Alpha’s steering becomes very hard whenever I take sharp turns o r try to park. It feels normal while driving straight but stiff during low-speed turns. There’s no warning light on the dashboard. Could this be a power steering pump issue, low fluid, o r something else? What should I check first?

Hard steering during slow turns in a United Alpha usually points to an issue with the electric power steering EPS system o r mechanical resistance in the steering components.

Most common causes

Low o r weak EPS motor assistance common in older Alpha models

Dry o r worn steering rack joints

Tight ball joints o r tie rods

Faulty steering angle sensor

Low battery voltage affecting EPS motor

What to check first

Make sure the battery and alternator are healthy—EPS needs stable voltage.

Inspect tie rod ends and ball joints for stiffness.

Check steering rack boots for tears o r dried-out grease.

Scan for EPS error codes faults don’t always trigger dashboard warnings.

If the steering is consistently stiff at low speeds, you may need steering rack lubrication o r EPS motor service.
