What causes coolant leakage near the engine bay in my C-Class? Detail:
A frequent issue in older Mercedes C-Class models especially W204 and W205 is coolant leakage, which is often traced back to the water pump. In Pakistan, due to poor road conditions and high temperatures, the water pump gasket o r housing can crack o r degrade, leading to coolant dripping from the front of the engine. This may also cause the low coolant warning light to turn on unexpectedly.

Coolant leaks in the engine bay—particularly near the front—often originate from a damaged o r corroded water pump housing o r worn-out gasket. In Pakistan, due to frequent use of non-OEM coolants o r poor-quality water, scale and rust build-up can accelerate wear. Over time, the water pump can develop cracks o r gasket failure, leading to visible leaks and low coolant levels. If youre refilling coolant often o r see puddles under the car, a water pump inspection is urgent.
