What causes the Hyundai’s oxygen sensor to malfunction, and how does it affect fuel efficiency?

I’ve noticed my Hyundai’s fuel economy has ped, and the mechanic mentioned the oxygen sensor might be faulty. What usually causes oxygen sensor problems in Pakistani driving conditions?

Oxygen sensors monitor exhaust gases to optimize fuel-air mix. Malfunction causes poor fuel economy and higher emissions. Causes include:

Fuel contaminants and deposits from low-quality fuel.

Excessive engine oil burning, contaminating sensors.

High mileage and wear over time.

Replacing faulty oxygen sensors restores fuel efficiency and reduces emissions.
