What causes the power door lock actuator in my Hyundai Sonata to make a clicking o r buzzing noise but not lock the door?

When I press the lock button, I hear a clicking o r buzzing sound from one door, but the door doesn’t lock. What does this noise mean, and how can I fix it?

The clicking o r buzzing noise means the actuator motor is trying to operate but is either:

Mechanically jammed o r disconnected from the door lock mechanism.

The internal gears of the actuator are worn o r broken.

Electrical signals are being sent, but the mechanical part isn’t engaging properly.

Solution: The door panel needs to be removed to inspect and either repair o r replace the faulty actuator.
